Test or grid
Your first partner can come from the personality quiz or from the full regional grid.
Starters
Poke Survivor starters include the first partners from every region plus extra friends on the select grid. You can take the personality test or pick manually. Poke Survivor starters are the partner you will upgrade, so the first choice matters more than a random shiny hunt.
How picking works
Your first partner can come from the personality quiz or from the full regional grid.
The partner you main gets the shop upgrades. Treat the first pick as a long-term main.
Fire, water, and grass first partners still obey the type chart once weather and hordes mix.
Gacha and shinies expand the box. The first pick is the on-ramp, not the whole roster.
Regional Starters
| Region & Starter | Base Move & Type | Combat Strengths & Upgrades |
|---|---|---|
| Gen 1 Kanto: Charmander | Ember (Fire) | Evolves into Fire Blast with screen-wide burn and multi-pierce; high DPS |
| Gen 1 Kanto: Squirtle | Water Gun (Water) | Evolves into Scald; offers defensive knockback against dense swarm rushes |
| Gen 1 Kanto: Bulbasaur | Vine Whip (Grass) | Forward melee sweep with high critical stagger; excels in narrow choke points |
| Gen 2 Johto: Cyndaquil | Flame Wheel (Fire) | High rotational speed and burning trail that melts chasing dog packs |
| Gen 3 Hoenn: Mudkip | Mud-Slap (Ground) | Slows advancing enemies and reduces incoming boss charge frequency |
| Gen 4 Sinnoh: Chimchar | Scratch (Normal/Fire) | Rapid-strike combo scaling with Vigor cards for aggressive kiting |
| Gen 6 Kalos: Froakie | Water Pulse (Water) | Disorienting sonic waves that confuse swarms and interrupt charges |
| Gen 7 Alola: Rowlet | Leafage (Grass/Flying) | Sharp foliage boomerangs hitting targets on forward and return arcs |
| Gen 9 Paldea: Fuecoco | Ember (Fire) | Spreads lingering fiery terrain zones that burn continuous horde waves |

Practice
Play one first partner through a few level-up cards before you reroll. To truly evaluate poke survivor starters, you need to feel auto-attack range, move swaps, and whether you kite in circles. Each of the poke survivor starters features distinct projectile patterns.
If a later swap looks tempting, check coins already spent. In the meta for poke survivor starters, permanent coin investments belong to each individual Pokémon, so stick with your funded companion to master poke survivor starters in late rifts.
Field notes
The personality test is optional flavor. The grid lists regional first partners and two extra friends. You can accept the quiz result or pick again on the same flow. Nothing in the official copy says the quiz locks you out of the rest of the box. Gacha and later collection still expand the roster.
The important lock is upgrades. Coins you dump into one partner stay on that partner. A cute pick you will actually main beats a “correct” pick you will abandon after one death. Fire, water, and grass still follow the type chart once weather rolls, so coverage comes from move swaps as much as from the species name.
Learn camera speed and auto-attack range before you reroll. Three card drafts teach more than a spreadsheet. When tickets pile up, the regional slot machine is for the box, not for replacing a funded main on impulse. Shinies are a palette you can toggle in collection once you own both forms.
Rift legendaries sit later in the fantasy. You still walk into those arenas with the partner you trained. If the grid feels huge, pick a type you can already read and spend the first hour on kiting, not on min-max theory.
This hub will not invent the extra friends' names until an official public page lists them in plain text. The grid in the live client is the source.
Deeper notes
First partners are how the personality system and the regional grid meet. Neither path is a trap; both feed the same upgrade shop.
People overthink the first pick because they bring competitive habits into a horde kite game. Spend coins on the partner you will actually main. Tickets expand the box later.
Source notes
Do not invent the two extra friends' names until they are listed in a public official page you can cite.
Repeat that upgrades are per Pokémon whenever this copy is edited.
Keep the personality test optional in the wording; the grid is always there.
FAQ
Official UI copy says starters from all regions, plus two extra friends on that screen. We do not invent those extra names here.
Yes. The result screen lets you accept the suggested partner or choose another from the same regional grid.
No. You can set normal or shiny in the collection once you own both forms, and the first pick is still an on-ramp.
